When preparing a formal valuation or an auction estimate should notice be taken of the provenance of the piece?
How can this history be verified?
Is it of long term importance?
What will be the effect of the saleroom hype?

 

These and other questions need to be considered when attempting to establish a basis for adding value to an item in excess of the intrinsic value
